Wendy began her music education at the age of 3 taking Yamaha group lessons.(This program was very similar to Kindermusik.) Then from ages 7 - 18 she studied classical piano, writing examinations to Grade 9 practical and Grade 3 theory through the Western Board of Music. ( Now known as Conservatory Canada. ) Also in elementary school, Wendy performed with her school choir in music festivals and school events. She began teaching beginner piano students while still in high school. Not intending to make music her career she took her nurses training and graduated from Alberta Vocational College as a Licensed Practical Nurse in May of 1995. Wendy married Bryan Chatten of Fort St. John in August of 1995 and started work for North Peace Home Support Services. She continued working until their first child, Bethany was born in 1999. Wendy decided against working shift work while her children were small, so she began teaching a few students at home. She took another break from working to enjoy the birth of their second child, Samantha. Then in the fall of 2001 the opportunity arose to teach at Simply Music. This is Wendy’s 9^th year of teaching at the studio, with students ranging in age from 7 to 75! She has also assisted in Kindermusik classes and enjoys it very much. In her words, “ where else do you get to act like a kid and actually teach children something?!”
